Field Data Collectors
Field Data
Collectors (FDC) are independent contractors who perform the following
types
of services for Spatial Data Research (SDR):
- Collect
specified field data and map roads, structures and landmarks for Enhanced
9-1-1 systems using Global Positioning System (GPS) and GIS mapping software.
- Collect
mapped structure information including: resident names, addresses,
structure
type, composition and phone numbers. - Review
postal and telephone databases as well as conduct personal interviews with
residents to insure accuracy of data collection. - Collect
detailed geographical information such as, road name, surface type, road
classification,
digital imagery and more. - Drive
every road in the specified area, public and private, visiting or stopping at
every addressable structure to collect data and GPS coordinates. - Provide
a professional field presence on behalf of SDR which instills customer
confidence
and demonstrates our ability to provide quality services.
FDCs
have unique qualifications and dispositions. SDR is looking for independent
contractors who possess a(an): - Familiarity
with rural America and an ability to be comfortable with rural
situations
such as, gates, private property, farmers, secluded communes, and even
security
animals. - Honest
enjoyment for being outdoors.
- Proven
ability to remain motivated while working independently.
- Lifestyle
that allows for continuous and sporadic travel, not always by the most
conventional
means. - Free-spirited,
easy going, yet extremely detail oriented nature.
- Ingenuity.

Knowledge of computer
hardware/software, email and data transmission formats.
- Above
average ability to navigate rural roads using established maps or
make-shift
directions. - Ability
to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences.
- Dedicated
work ethic
- A
clean driving record and are bondable.
- Adaptability
and can learn quickly.
As
independent contractors, FDCs provide their own: - Reliable
vehicle, capable of navigating rough rural roads and making long
road trips.
- Computer
equipment, preferably a field-rugged laptop. (On occasion this
equipment can
be leased from SDR.) - Meals,
travel/fuel, and lodging. (Depending on the project, some expenses may
be
reimbursed.) - Proof
of automobile insurance.
- Tax
withholdings, monthly invoicing/bookkeeping and medical coverage.
Contractors
are paid by hour or by the unit (feature mapped or mile driven) and will
bid
on individual jobs (subcontracts) offered by SDR. SDR provides some assistance
in locating lower-cost accommodations and free or low-cost RV sites.If
